  • Overview

    Performs accurate and timely entry of laboratory test requests. Operates the laboratory computer system and executes the computer job stream. Performs accurate and timely collection and/or processing of specimens in the section assigned.

     

    This is a part-time opportunity to work overnights (11pm-7am), every other weekend (Fri and Sat), and rotating holidays (schedule subject to change).

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

    • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

    • Performs specimen processing and collection to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality

    • Reviews, follows and understands established laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures

    • Answers phones, supports and troubleshoots problems of clients and users

    • Recognizes, investigates and resolves unusual order(s) and test requests

    • Organizes work such that time deadlines are consistently met and is able to adjust work schedule in response to STAT or unusual requests, including expected turnaround times

    • Performs and documents maintenance and troubleshooting procedures on laboratory equipment

    Qualifications

    • Trade or vocational certification in Phlebotomy or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred
    • Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
    • Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)
    • Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection
    • Familiar with medical terminology and medical spelling
    • Effective management of projects, deadlines, and work load prioritizing; putting things together in an orderly and functional whole
    • Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves
