  • Overview

    Assesses and treats the behavioral, psychological, social, spiritual and emotional aspects of the patient's needs; establishes with the patient appropriate goals for treatment, and reviews progress towards these goals per DHS/Medicare requirements. The psychotherapist in the ED setting assesses and treats the behavioral, psychological, social, spiritual and emotional aspects of the patient's needs; establishes with the patient appropriate goals for treatment and disposition to appropriate level of care per DHS/Medicare requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Assessment and Diagnosis. Completes crisis psychotherapy and brief diagnostic assessments to diagnose, identify needs and establish initial goals
    • Completes documentation that includes all required elements as defined by DHS and incorporates information from collateral resources
    • Emergency Department Psychotherapists: Completes a diagnostic assessments to diagnose, identify needs and establish immediate risk of harm to self, risk to others and appropriate level of care
    • Incorporates information from available collateral resources when developing plan of care
    • Completes documentation that includes all required elements as defined by DHS
    • Makes and communicates care recommendations and determines level of care to patients, physicians, nursing staff and other involved parties
    • Facilitates completion of the plan of care in consultation and collaboration with emergency department staff
    • Performs counseling and psychotherapy: Based on the diagnostic assessment develops a comprehensive treatment plan that includes measurable goals and objectives which is updated in subsequent ED visits
    • Assists clients/families in adjusting to and decreasing symptoms of mental illness following the treatment plan
    • Completes timely and accurate documentation of patient encounters per DHS and HE compliance requirements
    • Competes ongoing consultation with leaders and team psychotherapist, and communicates with patient families to ensure understand of treatment recommendations and anticipated disposition
    • Emergency Department Psychotherapists: Remains current with resources in the community including reporting protocol for maltreatment reports, domestic violence, sexual, fetal loss, homelessness, medical and financial assistance, medical and dental providers
    • Assists client/family in utilizing relevant and appropriate community resources
    • Maintains contact with community agencies to promote the exchange of information facilitate use of these services on behalf of clients
    • Responsible for tracking, reporting, and meeting the requirements for the 1 hour of 1:1 and group supervision provided per month
    • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards
    • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements
    • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned

    Qualifications

    • Masters Degree or higher degree from an accredited university or college
    • License Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) through MN Board of Social Work
    • Eligible for or working towards hours required for licensure as an Independent Clinical Practitioner fulfills the requirements as set forth by the Minnesota Board of Social Work/Behavioral Health
    • Works under the supervision of a Licensed Independent Clinical Practitioner
    • Experience Internship in clinical psychotherapy Reports To Clinical Manager, Crisis Social Work Lead, or Administrator of Mental Health and Addiction Medicine Clinic
    • Direction of Others: Provides supervision to student interns
    • Assessment, Planning, Evaluation: Collects and analyses pertinent data and/or clinical findings
    • Incorporates clinical findings and scientific evidence in the development, coordination and implementation of an individualized plan of care to achieve desired outcomes
    • Evaluates progress towards goals and outcomes identifying opportunities for improvement and change
    • Computer Skills Advanced: Skilled in specialized computer software
    • Ability to use more advanced functions, formulas and other special elements of the specific program or application
    • Patient Care Delivery: Observes and collects pertinent data and/or clinical findings to enhance patient outcomes
    • Patient Education: Provides patient educational information appropriate to the developmental level, learning needs, readiness, cultural values, and beliefs of patients and families
    • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves
    • Professional Practice: Demonstrates behavior consistent with the standards, scope of practice, ethics, and characteristics of a licensed professional
